Somewhere Between A Local And International Legend
-
Dead: Chuck Brown, and if you're not from the Washington area, you won't necessarily know how huge he was to the music scene there. He was the "Godfather of Go-Go," the style of funk peculiar to D.C. (and having nothing to do with go-go dancers of the '60s). In Washington, he was a legend, and his death is front-page news. In the rest of the world, people really into music know what he was all about. And if you watch Washington Nationals games, that song they play for homers is his "Bustin' Loose," part of which was sampled in Nelly's "Hot in Herre." (Washington Post)
