Pave It. We Can Always Use More Parking
-
Hey, you remember how part of the reason given for St. Louis to approve the Busch Stadium deal was that it would include a "Ballpark Village" on the lot where the old stadium stood, which would bring revenue and jobs to the area? That was a long time ago. What's there now? Still an empty lot. The Cardinals have unveiled yet another Ballpark Village plan, which loses the offices and is just a basic retail/restaurant thing, and those things usually don't work -- they're busy only at game time and are ghost towns otherwise. They'd be better off just putting a McDonald's on the lot. And this is an example of how, when sports team owners pitch their grand plans to your city and propose some "entertainment district" concept to make it work, you should take it with a grain, or pound, of salt. More often than not, you get either some cheesy mess or a ghost town. (St. Louis Post-Dispatch)
