The death of print newspapers is speeding up in the wake of the Newhouse New Orleans/Birmingham move with the announcement that Canada's Postmedia chain will shut down the Sunday editions of the Calgary, Edmonton, and Ottawa Sun papers and will put the Monday edition of the National Post on hiatus for at least the Summer. The thing is that at this stage, the cost of production and distribution well exceeds revenue potential except for coupon and circular days. If coupons move totally to the Internet, print papers (with the exception of a few papers like the New York Times that don't rely on that income) will be in deep, deep trouble.
