It would be crazy to use smokers' lungs for transplants, right? Not so fast: A study from the U.K. says that it's better to use smokers’ lungs for transplants than waiting for non-smoker lungs. The patients have a better chance of overall survival even if they're also not likely to live as long as if they get non-smoked lungs. There have been cases where transplant patients have died after getting smokers' lungs, but this study says that the tainted organs are better than waiting too long. (Toronto Star)
