It's kind of interesting to see how cities that were largely built around manufacturing -- blue-collar towns -- are hurting now that they need to attract educated young people to help them recover. They rode the unionized manufacturing gravy train for longer than they should have, and now they're left a little empty. If you're a young person with a college degree, why would you go to Youngstown or Bakersfield or Dayton? You wouldn't, which will only accelerate those cities' problems. (New York Times)
