When is it necessary for a news report on crime to mention the races of the perpetrators and victims? That's the issue in Chicago, where people are being attacked by roving bands of teens and the Chicago Tribune won't print the race of the teens, saying it isn't relevant. What's interesting is that the paper says that race isn't a factor because the motivation was theft rather than hate, but the actual reports don't indicate that was the case in each incident -- nothing was taken from at least one of the victims, and police say that it was without provocation. How does the Tribune know it WASN'T racially motivated? (Chicago Tribune)
