Going After The Shallow Pockets
-
The scary part of the dispute between AT&T and a small business owner over a $1 million phone bill is this: AT&T agrees that the guy's phone was hacked, and agrees that it's pretty impossible for him to have made multiple calls to Somalia on one line at the same time. They acknowledge it was clearly external fraud. But they STILL WANT THE MONEY and will only drop the charges if the business owner drops his countersuit. Otherwise, AT&T's attitude is that, well, it's your own fault for not doing more to secure your lines. Really? They made him spend hundreds of thousands in legal fees to fight that ridiculous bill and they don't want to make him whole? By the way, in case you think this can't happen to you, one of the reasons AT&T gave for pressing their case is that even though it was not the guy's fault, federal regulations say they CAN hold him responsible. Beware. (Salem News)
