A Russian opera singer has pulled out of the Bayreuth Festival, one of the biggest opera events in the world, because he had a swastika tattoo. He's "painted it over" and says it was a youthful mistake, made when he was in a metal band as a young man. But swastikas won't go over well in Germany, or, more accurately, they may go over too well with some people there. It's a reminder of how a tattoo mistake made as a youth can linger forever, and how some symbols never lose their meaning. (CNN)
