Time For Mr. Drucker To Retire

When I saw a report on the closing of the oldest general store in America after 224 years., it reminded me that a lot of people carry a lot of nostalgia for things like this. The problem is, the old general store wasn't necessarily better than what we have now. In fact, I don't know why people have such positive feelings towards stores that carry very little merchandise at high prices. I would argue that big-box stores are a vast improvement in quality of life for practically everybody. In fact, there's nothing wrong with having a 7-Eleven instead of the traditional general store. More stuff, better prices... and Slurpees. (Providence Journal)
