Is A Subsidized Whoopie Pie As Sweet?
-
A baker selling her wares in a farmers' market in Massachusetts is under fire for refusing to sell Whoopie pies to people using EBT cards, the debit cards for food stamps. She doesn't think taxpayers should be paying for Whoopie pies (which are popular cake-and-cream treats in New England and Pennsylvania and, yes, I know they've sort of gone national, because my local Ralphs here in California has 'em, and so does Trader Joe's). She says it's OK to use EBT cards to buy fruit and veggies, but she draws the line at her own sweets. So... should tax money pay for sweet treats? (Boston Herald)
