Yeah, That's A Little Pricey For Me. How Much If I Just Lease It?
-
A woman died in 1989, and when the lawyers went to examine her estate, they found a car hidden in her barn. The car: a 1936 Mercedes 540K Special Roadster, one of the most sought-after cars of the pre-war era. It had been bought by the woman's brother for $7,000, and it was spirited out of Germany after the woman and her mother fled to Sweden as the Nazis took control. And it was in practically perfect condition, other than the cigarette butts in the ashtray; the car hadn't been touched in three decades. Now, it's being auctioned off at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance, and they think it could break the record price for a car at auction of $16.4 million. Say you had the money. Would you spend it on a single car? (Los Angeles Times)
