Back From The Dead With Deals For You
-
Who owns your image and voice when you're dead? Julia Child's family is upset that she's appearing in ads for Thermador, and their Julia Child Foundation owns her copyrights and trademarks, so they're wondering how Thermador, which made the appliances on the set of "The French Chef," thought they had the right to use her in their ads. The company is claiming that the use of the images doesn't imply an endorsement; yeah, good luck with that. There are dueling lawsuits, but it does raise the question: Who SHOULD own a dead person's image? For how long? Forever? Should you be unable to use a picture of George Washington without his heirs' permission? (Los Angeles Times)
