And This Wasn't Reported Before He Died... Why?
-
Add to the week's cavalcade of "too soon?" the story in the Cleveland Plain Dealer asserting that the late Art Modell was lying when he insisted that the city of Cleveland had ignored his desire for a new stadium, thus making it impossible for him to keep the Browns there. The paper's Mark Naymik writes that Modell WAS offered a stadium deal on the Gateway project, near the old and current stadia and across I-90 from where the Indians ended up, and he rejected it. This is coming out in the immediate wake of his passing, so... too soon? (Okay, it'll NEVER be "too soon" to trash Art Modell in Cleveland, and he'll always be The Man Who Brought Football Back in Baltimore, but does this tarnish his image elsewhere?)
