99.99 Percent? Too Risky

If, as the FAA insists, 99.99% of airport operations go off without incident, it's the .01% that bothers everyone, and for good reason: in cases like two incidents last year at O'Hare, there have been near-misses (I know, they didn't "nearly miss," they missed) caused, they say, by "crossing runways" and air traffic controllers' error. Only the pilots seeing what was happening and aborting at the last second avoided disaster. You'd think they'd have everything totally automated to be 100% safe by now. (ABC News)
