There's Always The Clippers
-
This is one of the worst columns I've read in a major paper, and here's why: It's from the L.A. Times' Bill Plaschke (King of the One-Sentence Paragraph), and it's about how the Lakers have moved, under a huge contract, to a newly-launched cable channel that most L.A. viewers can't get (it's owned by Time Warner Cable, and if you don't have Time Warner, you're S.O.L.). Here's why the article is bad: He seems to blame the other carriers like DirecTV and Dish and Cox and Verizon, because, he says, it's merely $3.95 per subscriber and they should give Time Warner and the Lakers what they want because people want to see the games. But why should someone who DOESN'T want the games pay four bucks for them? Why should we be paying Time Warner for their $3 Billion mistake when we didn't have to pay that money in the past, when they were on Fox Sports West and KCAL-TV? I'd like the games, but I don't want to pay extra for them. Maybe it's a good thing that someone's holding fast against insane sports rights fees. (Los Angeles Times)
