This happened a couple of weeks ago, but it's still a fresh wound: People who bought some of Motorola's top-of-the-line Android phones did so with the knowledge that Motorola was promising that they'd all be upgraded to the latest version of Android at the time, Ice Cream Sandwich, with performance benefits and greater security. Now, a year later, Motorola, buried in a forum post, admitted that they won't be upgrading those phones after all. They decided that it was just too much trouble and they should focus on newer phones. What will they do for the people who spent hundreds of dollars on those 2011 phones? Nothing. Would you buy a phone from them anymore? And this raises one huge problem with Android that iPhone and Windows Phone don't have: relatively new phones can be left out of upgrades at the whim of a carrier or a manufacturer. If you have a two year old iPhone, all of the benefits of a new iOS may not work, but you WILL get upgraded if you want. (CNET; Thanks to Consumerist.com for the link)
