Perhaps you read about that Iraqi family in Arizona who beat and padlocked a teenage girl because she was caught talking to a boy. The court has ruled in that case, and has given the mother probation in a plea bargain. That doesn't really seem appropriate, considering that the poor girl is probably mentally scarred for life, and she has to live with these people. Should American courts defer to cultural differences when ruling on cases like this? (NBC News)
