Who Needs Seats? Just Stack 'Em Up Like Cordwood
-
The CEO of U.K cut-rate airline Ryanair -- you know, the one who charges for everything and wants to put in pay toilets -- says that seat belts on airplanes are pointless, his way of justifying the "standing room only" areas he wants to put on planes, where people would hang onto straps for the whole flight. He IS correct that a seat belt is unlikely to save you in the event of a crash, but in turbulence, you'd be less likely to get slammed around if you're belted in. Also, YOU try to stand on a plane for an hour. And YOU try to hold your balance while the plane lands. Okay, though -- if you could fly a short route for the price of a bus ticket if you were willing to stand, would you? (Daily Telegraph)
