It's funny, I was just reading a graphic novel about a rug-maker in early 1900s Eastern Europe who finds that his livelihood has suddenly been eliminated when cheaper rugs replace his finely-crafted items, and he has no Plan B for life after the Industrial Revolution reaches his poor area. ("Market Day," by James Sturm) And here's an article about jobs that technology has eliminated or left behind, like video store clerk or toll collector or even postal worker, and... same thing. It's a reminder that you have to give yourself alternatives. (NBC News)
