It's Everyone's Beach Now
-
A New Jersey State Senator is drawing a line in the sand. figuratively but also almost literally, but first you need to know that, unlike most everywhere else, most New Jersey shore towns charge fees for using their beaches. You have to buy seasonal or daily beach badges to go on the beach, and, yes, they have people checking. So the Senator is pushing a law that would require towns taking federal or state money to rebuild the beaches after the storm to open free public access to the beaches. It's only fair, right? Bet this gets major opposition from everyone in those towns, though. They like the revenue and they like making the riff-raff (they call 'em "Bennies" north of Long Beach Island and "Shoobies" to the south) pay. (Newark Star-Ledger)
