The Stage Deli is closing, and you get a bunch of articles like this looking back at the New York eatery with misty-eyed reverence. The problem is that, in my opinion, it was not a very good deli. It was more of a tourist trap with the gimmick of a menu with sandwiches named after celebrities. Of the tourist delis in that neighborhood, it was a distant second in quality to the Carnegie Deli.
