Say You Didn't Mean It, Get A Lighter Sentence

How cheap is life? Well, you might recall from a couple of years ago the story of a man arrested for killing a bystander who laughed when pastrami fell out of his sandwich. You might recall that the accused, who'd given an overly detailed order, allegedly flew into a rage when the meat fell, the guy laughed, and the donut shop wouldn't give him a new sandwich, and kicked the laugher in the head, killing him. The jury verdict? Voluntary manslaughter, a maximum of 11 years. Not second-degree murder and 15-to-life. This guy killed a person over a chuckle about a sandwich mishap. 11 years, max. That's what life's worth. (Daily Breeze, Torrance)
