Dead: Shadow Morton, and you know his songs: He wrote "Leader of the Pack" and “Remember (Walking in the Sand)†before alcohol and disinterest drove him away (but not entirely) from writing, and then he produced Janis Ian, Vanilla Fudge, and the New York Dolls, and that pretty much defines "eclectic." But then he got sober and launched a THIRD career, designing golf clubs. What a life. And here's the kicker: He wrote and produced hit songs despite having no ability to read music or play an instrument. He wrote songs in his head. That's all it took. (New York Times)
