How Many Voters Thought This Was Going To Be Free?

In selling Obamacare to the public, the administration insisted that it would make insurance more affordable. Well, no. We're looking at huge premium hikes coming up, like 30%, and prices way higher than they expected, and even some of the people who backed the new law are nervous that the rate increases will create a backlash. The problem is that insurers are now required to cover all comers, regardless of risk. Someone has to pay. And if you can't afford it, well, too bad, there's a mandate, so you HAVE to pay or get fined. Oh, but insurance WILL be cheaper for seniors -- AARP made sure of that, getting a provision in there that older consumers can't be charged more than three times the rate for younger consumers -- so young people, you'll pay the difference. This is not looking good. But, if you're appalled by this, aren't you also appalled by how the present system's a disaster, too? (Los Angeles Times)
