Or You Can Steal A Gun, Turn It In, And Get A Handy Publix Gift Card

Here's another gun buyback in Florida, 130 guns collected by the police, and another in California, in a program that... well, you know what? The case against gun buybacks is very well stated in a recent episode of Freakonomics Radio, which you can and should listen to by clicking here. "These weapons will not be used in a crime again," the cop oin Florida says, and the California cop says "what we're 100 percent sure of is that the guns here today are not going to be used in a crime," ignoring the fact that practically all of the guns turned in for these things have never been used in a crime and were unlikely to ever be used for any reason. Gun buybacks take guns off the street that were most likely in the hands of law-abiding citizens who weren't using them, and leave criminals' guns untouched. The efforts SHOULD be in increasing penalties for using a gun in the commission of a crime, but that's not going to provide politicians and police officials with a photo op.
