Another Clever Municipal Revenue Enhancement
-
An ethical dilemma: You exit the New York subway, go out the turnstiles, and you discover that there's no way to the street -- the gates are all locked. So you have to go back and retrace your steps for another exit, yet that means going back through the turnstiles. Do you pay another fare or jump the turnstiles? The MTA says in no uncertain terms that you have to pay, but they're the ones who didn't lock the turnstiles or inform you that leaving that way would trap you. So you HAVE to technically break the law and jump the turnstiles, right? Why should you have to pay to leave when you've already paid to ride? (New York Times)
