The FCC and the White House have jumped into the fray and are urging a change in the law to allow you to unlock your cellphone once your contract's up. And since you end up paying for that phone over a two year contract, why DID the Copyright Office rule that it's illegal to unlock your phone and take it to another network once your contract expires? You bought it, you should own it and do what you want with it, right? The carriers say they WILL unlock phones if asked, though, so is this really an issue?
