There ARE, However, Other Ways To Teach That
-
It was probably not the smartest thing to assign studens to write essays from the viewpoint of either a slave owner or an abolitionist, not during Black History Month, but the "outrage" and "furor" over it seems manufactured, too. Only one parent complained, and then somehow groups unconnected to the school went to the media with their complaints. But while the timing was bad, is it always a bad thing to have students try to get into the minds of people who do bad things to try and understand how evil takes hold? Is that always invalid? If not, when is it OK? Nazis? Serial killers? (WTXF-TV/Philadelphia)
