The Census Bureau says that about 600,000 Americans commute over 90 minutes and 50 miles each way every day. That's mostly around places like New York and L.A. It's not a huge number - under 1 percent - but it happens. (I used to do that; brutal) About 8% of full-time workers have "long commutes," under 90 minutes but long. Average commute: 25.5 minutes.
