Doing business internationally can be tough. Ask Kia, which has a model it was calling the Provo that it can't sell under that name in the UK. Why? Because "Provo" was a nickname for the IRA -- short for "Provisional IRA" -- during the Troubles in Northern Ireland. You wouldn't think of that if you weren't in the UK, probably. Kia says it was only a concept car and wasn't going to be sold by that or any other name in the UK, and that it got "Provo" from the italian word for prototype (prova). But they were smart enough to know early on to make sure people understood the name wasn't going to be used where it has that other meaning. (BBC)
