Dead: Stompin' Tom Connors, at 77. Who? See, if you're Canadian, you don't have to ask. He was a folkie-country singer-songwriter with a funny name who wrote and sang songs about Canada and all things Canadian. I don't think it's an insult to say that he was pretty much unknown beyond the borders of Canada, but in his own country, he was famous enough do that members of Parliament sang a song of his ("Bud the Spud," no less) in his honor when they learned of his death, the Prime Minister issued a eulogy, and the NHL posted a statement, noting that his "The Hockey Song" is played in arenas. It may seem like a joke to be famous in only one place -- the big fish in a small pond -- and he was so Canadian he would have fit in with the Canadian jokes on "How I Met Your Mother," but it's a lot more than most people achieve.
