It's Not 1949 Anymore
-
A popular cheesesteak joint in Philly is changing its name to "Joe's." The old name? Well, it's a derogatory word for Chinese people. How did it get that name in the first place? The original owner, circa 1949, had that as his own nickname, and, no, he was white, but friends called him that because of his eyes. Even though it wasn't meant to be derogatory and it was long-established, they realized that, well, it's 2013, time to change. Now, will someone point this out to the Washington Derogatory Name For Native Americans? (Philadelphia Inquirer)
