Placido Polanco Bats Cleanup. That's All You Need To Know

Everyone was a little surprised that the Miami Marlins drew a decent crowd for opening day, although it wasn't a sellout and it was boosted by lots of Atlanta Braves fans. But on Wednesday, the sane matchup drew an announced 13.810, the smallest crowd ever in the new park. They have a way to go to match one game I saw in Miami at the old park, Dolphins/Joe Robbie/Blockbuster/Pro Player/Landshark/Whatever Stadium -- announced at just over 5,000, but we counted no more than maybe 600 in the park. We had most of a section on the third base side to ourselves. The shame of it is, Miami COULD be a great baseball town, with all the Northeast transplants and Cuban community predisposed to love baseball, but over the years, the team has done everything it could to drive people away.
