Fun With Crippling Depression

Hyundai UK wanted to show how its new SUV emits steam and not toxic carbon monoxide. What better way to do that than to make a YouTube spot, a would-be viral video, showing someone trying to commit suicide by connecting a host to the tailpipe and feeding it into the inside, only to find that the fumes aren't toxic? Maybe every other possible way of communicating that fact would have been better. Now, Hyundai is claiming it had nothing to do with the ad, even though the agency that came up with it is owned by Hyundai Motor Group's chairman and his daughter. It's a hallmark of a bad idea when not only is the company involved apologizing, but denying any knowledge of it. (Sydney Morning Herald)
