What's There To Say? Run, Kick, Goal
-
Imagine a pro sports team in America where the owner declared that the team would be "getting back to its Chinese roots" and then fired anyone who wasn't Chinese, and stocking the roster with all-Chinese players. Or replace Chinese with Russian or Canadian or Christian or black. There'd be an uproar. But when Major League Soccer's Chivas USA, the L.A. based off-shoot of Mexico's Chivas de Guadalajara, was put back in the hands of Chivas owner Jorge Vergara, he allegedly said that he'd fire all non-Spanish-speaking employees. And, sure enough, two of the team's youth academy coaches are suing because they say they were fired for not speaking Spanish. It's one thing to want to appeal to Mexican-Americans in the L.A. market, and another to hire and fire based on that. (Daily Breeze, Torrance)
