The L.A. City Council is ready to add the city to the list of places that ban single-use plastic bags. You'd have to bring your own reusables or buy paper bags at 10 cents a piece. This is being done in the name of the environment, but it's a pain in the ass, and I can say that because I have to deal with it in nearby Long Beach and unincorporated parts of L.A. County. In fact, I actually stopped shopping at one Long Beach shopping center because of that -- if you happen to forget your reusable bags when you go there, you have to buy bags or go without, and I can just go a few miles away to Torrance or Lakewood or Orange County and not have that problem.
