The Washington city council decided that they should try and enact a "living wage" ordinance mandating that Walmart -- and nobody else, the way that the law is written -- pay a "super-minimum-wage" of $12.50 an hour, see, because Walmart is Walmart. And Walmart being Walmart, they've told the council that if the law passes, Walmart will stop development of three planned stores in the city and may not open three others already under construction. The council appears to be surprised and upset, because they want big business to come to the very neighborhoods Walmart was coming to. There's a lot of disapproval over Walmart's "tactics," but can you blame them? (Washington Post)
