Remember that controversy where some hearing-impaired folks were upset that kids can get cochlear implants to give them hearing, and how they were insulted that deafness was being treated as something negative? Here's another controversy, with a hospital pulling an ad from Seattle buses that read, "Let's wipe out cancer, diabetes and autism in his lifetime," with a picture of a child. Why is that controversial? Autism. Some folks are upset that autism is being treated as a bad thing that needs to be wiped out, because it devalues the people who have it now. Is it hurtful? If you were autistic, would you feel hurt by that ad? (KIRO-TV/Seattle)
