How much money could you turn your back on? Hockey fans know that Ilya Kovalchuk ended up with a 15-year, $100 million deal three years ago (after the league rejected a 17-year deal), and while you'll get mixed reviews on his performance, he was a key piece of the New Jersey Devils for the last four years. And now, suddenly, he's announced that he's retiring and going back to Russia. That's it. Walking away. He apparently has that right, but if you're a fan, do you feel betrayed? Or are you relieved that the onerous contract is over and they'll have money to spend on other guys? Could you walk away from 12 years and millions of dollars? (Newark Star-Ledger)
