You're Different From A McDonald's Counter Person... How?
-
Oh, this one should get people riled up: It's an article written by a young man who worked at a grilled cheese food truck in Manhattan and who, after a group of workers ordered and paid for $170 worth of food and didn't leave a tip, tweeted a comment about it naming the company for which the group worked... and he got fired after that company complained. To me, and I'm a habitual big tipper, the issue is this: Tips are optional. Not everyone tips, even when they should. You don't tip-shame them, and you don't do it to their bosses. That's petulant and deserving of getting fired. Sucks when a patron with a big order doesn't tip, but, then again, it's not a sit-down restaurant. What did he do to deserve a tip? (The Awl)
