How insane are Quebec's French-language protectionist laws? This teen entrepreneur wanted to name his graphic design "Wellarc," which combines the words WEb, Language, Logo, ARtistic, and Company, in French as well as English. The provincial government denied him the right to use that name, because it's not a French word. It's a MADE-UP NAME. How is that a danger to French? And if acronyms and made up names are verboten, how is Cogeco, the cable conglomerate that serves much of the province, allowed to use that name, since it's short for COmpagnie GEnerale de COmmunication?
