Cheaper, Faster, Better? Okay, We're Listening

So, now we've seen Elon Musk's plan for the hyperloop, his pneumatic-tube-like people mover that would hurtle people between L.A. and San Francisco in 30 minutes. It would also be much, much, much cheaper than the alleged "bullet train" the state is hell-bent on building. Can it work? Why aren't we taking a look and putting the train, already looking like it won't be done until 2029 and costing at least $69 billion and counting, on the back burner while they see if it can be done? I mean, this is the guy who made the electric car profitable and desirable; the least they can do is check it out, even if he doesn't plan to build it himself. (San Jose Mercury News)
