You Want To Complain About This Fee? There's A Fee For That
-
It's spreading. The fees airlines charge for, you know, everything are now being tacked onto hotel rooms. They'll charge you for "porterage" even if you carry your own bags to your room. Internet? Oh, they keep jacking that up even though it isn't costing them more. Want to check out early? Fee. Want to use an in-room safe? Fee. Housekeeping? Yep. Want to park the car? Oh, Lord, they want a fortune, even if there's plenty of open parking (memo to NAB: I saw the fees for self-parking at the Orlando hotel you're using for the Radio Show, and decided I'll take a cab instead. And that place has acres and acres of parking available. Screw that.) Those fees are NOT being added at your mid-level chains like Hilton Garden Inn or Courtyard by Marriott, but if you stay someplace a little nicer, you WILL pay. (New York Times)
