No Posing, No Pictures, No Problem

California is poised to pass the nation's first revenge porn ban, to prevent exes from posting nude shots or sex videos online. You can go to jail for it. But... but... if you don't want someone to post nude pictures or sex tapes of you, WHY WOULD YOU HAVE THEM TAKEN IN THE FIRST PLACE? Isn't this pretty easily headed off at the pass? I mean, if they do it in secret, that's illegal already. And if you consent to making a photo or video, you know it can and probably will be seen by others. The words "not meant for public consumption" assume that both parties agree, and unless you have that in writing, you can NEVER assume that's the case. Not to defend the sleazeballs who run these "revenge porn" websites or the exes who post the material, but if you don't want to be exposed, don't get in front of the camera. And I don't buy this article's attitude that if you say that, you're "not living in the real world." We can't protect every moron from his or herself. Just because young people frequently sext and make sex videos doesn't mean they shouldn't expect consequences. (NBC News)
