What If You Don't Even HAVE A 'True Self' To Reveal?
-
I don't understand this study. It says that while it's true and obvious that people in traditionally marginalized groups like gays and minorities feel the need to "hide their true selves at work," half of straight white men ALSO feel the need to hide their true selves at work. Okay, now, I'm a member of that particular category, and I have no idea what that means. Not talking about politics? Not wearing casual clothes? Not disclosing your favorite movie? If it means leaving your personal life at home and being a professional in the office, is that "hiding your true self"? And if you're an employer, how much of an employee's "true self" do you even WANT at the office? (Philly.com)
