There's An App For... Everything

It was a matter of time before someone unscrupulous would take a look at those apps where you can deposit checks by taking pictures of them and think, hey, there's an opportunity to scam the bank here. And so we have a woman alleged to have deposited checks with an app, and then taken the physical checks to an ATM and cashed them again. You would think the machines would be able to recognize the repeat numbers, but apparently not. And the bank doesn't seem to care much -- they seem to be putting the onus on the employer whose account got raided to come to the branch and sign up for special security options. That shouldn't happen, but the bank isn't even pressing charges. The woman claims it was all a mistake and just forgot that she'd cashed the same checks months earlier, but, yeah, right. Nice to see the bank taking charge of the situation and... oh, right, they didn't. (WTVJ/Miami)
