Sort-Of Terms Of Sort-Of Endearment

So, should a major pro sports team with a nickname that's an offensive term for an ethnicity change its name? What? Oh, right, Washington, them, too. No, I'm talking about Premier League soccer's Tottenham Hotspur, whose fans informally call the team and themselves the Yids. The Spurs have, traditionally, a large number of Jewish fans, and they chant "Yid" and fly the Israeli flag in response to anti-Semitic chants and songs from opposing supporters. Now, authorities are threatening to arrest and fine fans for using "the Y-word" and ban them from the stadium. So, ban the word, embrace it, what do you do? (NBC News)
