The middle class isn't buying things the way it used to, so manufacturers are targeting rich folks with expensive luxury versions of every day items, like tampons and paper towels and even $75-a-bag ice cubes. Are you willing to spend 20% more for gourmet potato chips? At the same time, the manufacturers are coming up with discount versions of the same things, so they're basically saying that the only people buying or the rich and the poor. Those might be the only people left. (NBC News)
