The Dead Mall List Keeps Growing
-
Yet another '70s-era shopping mall is probably biting the dust: Granite Run Mall in Media, PA, a Philadelphia suburb, has been sold out of foreclosure to a major residential real estate developer who will probably convert the land to "mixed use" -- retail, offices, residential. Likely, no more mall. You can translate this to Anywhere, USA: practically all the malls here where I live now are in variously desperate stages of "reinvention," whether by adding new roofless sections or "lifestyle" wings or just overhauling the joint. When was it that the standard suburban indoor mall became such a pariah? (Delaware County Daily Times; Thanks to Spike Eskin at CBSPhilly.com/WIP/Philadelphia for the link)
