A Welcome, Worn Out
-
How many games into a season is enough to know you need to fire a coach? The Philadelphia Flyers made it through three games before they fired Peter Laviolette, and the questions arise: What did they see after three losses that they didn't see by the end of last season? Everyone knew he was in trouble, but they didn't fire him in the off-season. Why? And if there wasn't enough evidence to pull the plug then, are three games enough to magically change management's mind? They've been sliding downhill since losing in the finals in '10 -- the timing of this is odd. Interesting, though, that his tenure in Philly was similar to that in Caolina -- spectacular start (a Cup in his first full season in Carolina, the finals in his first season in Philly), followed by a slide, then a firing three years after the great start.
